Working at Titanium Birch

We’re laying the foundations for our firm to exist far into the future. It all begins with our people.

Our core principles guide the decisions we make every day.

How we work

Learn about our approach to cultivating our people at Titanium Birch.

Performance management

At Titanium Birch, your manager’s job is to ensure you know what the company expects of you and how the company thinks your actual results compare to what’s expected, ideally on a continuous basis. They’ll do that through many methods, including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that members of your team exchange feedback with you openly and frequently, both ad-hoc as well as in retrospectives and other habitual forums

  • Asking you to write up self-reflections and discussing these with you

  • Giving you direct feedback

  • A few times a year: summarising in writing the feedback you’ve been discussing throughout the year

  • After passing your probation, if you’re ever underperforming, your manager will work with you to get you to where you ought to be through a fair, transparent, and supportive process spanning many months

Learning and growth

With the support and guidance of your manager, you will decide for yourself how you’ll improve and deliver more results to the company.

  • At least one colleague will mentor you and help you with skill-growth.

  • You’ll have a budget of time and money for self-guided skill-growth: such as courses and conferences.

  • You can work with an external coach as a confidential sounding board.

  • As the team sorts its backlog: we’ll weave in time for learning and teaching. “Improving yourself and others” is a key part of how the company will evaluate your performance.

Compensation

  • Compensation depends in large part on the market for talent. The company pays competitively to attract and retain talent.

  • Achieving one’s goals (ie: a team being successful) only indirectly influences decisions about compensation. It’s fine — even expected — to set ambitious goals and sometimes fail to achieve them. On the flip side, consistently failing to achieve one’s goals is unlikely to be a sign of great performance.

  • Base salaries are reviewed annually and adjusted such that the salary is within the range of market salaries for people who could deliver similar results.

  • Discretionary bonuses are given annually and used to reward both efforts and results.

Day-to-day life

  • You’ll work in our office in Singapore. Working together in person is valuable for building relationships and trust, learning, enhancing teamwork and creativity, and getting things done.

  • Option to work from home when it’s more efficient.

  • 25 days of paid leave per year.

  • Flexible hours: Arrange your hours as you see fit, with the knowledge that meetings with colleagues are scheduled in advance between 09:00-18:00.

  • Work sustainably and be healthy: We encourage everyone to get some exercise during the day.

  • The company will give you cash to buy health insurance instead of enrolling in a group plan. This gives you the flexibility to select a plan that meets your needs. It also means you won’t be tied to the company should you (knock wood) develop a long-term health condition.
